RAC and SEAC March Meeting

On March 22nd, 2022, the EU Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) adopted its opinion supporting Norway’s proposal to restrict the use of Dechlorane Plus. The RAC found that this very persistent and bioaccumulative chemical poses a risk to people and to the environment across the EU. According to the RAC, this restriction would effectively reduce emissions of Dechlorane Plus as well as reduce the risks related to it.

The Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) believes that restrictions are appropriate EU-wide solutions to reduce risks related to chemicals and take into account the identified hazards of said chemicals but pointed out that the marginal cost-effectiveness of the restriction options differs significantly.

A 60-day consultation on this matter started on March 17th, 2022 while both Committees combined opinion is expected by summer.
